Hi my name is Finola Delamere
I have worked with clay for many years -always part time while working at Nottingham University for the Cochrane Collaboration.
Now I am able to give my full time and attention to the thing I love doing most -and that is working with clay. I have a studio converted from an old stable which is a great place to work and dream. I have decorated the outer walls of the studio -as well as the house with ceramic tiles and outside the studio we have created a 'pottery garden' which I have decorated with ceramic snakes and ceramic flowers in the trees.
I mainly use a red clay which I glaze in the maiolica tradition because I like to paint on to the raw tin glaze. I would describe myself as a painterly potter. I like to throw pots on the wheel to make functional ware but also individual pieces such as my lotus bowl bird baths. To complement the wheel thrown pieces I make hand built vessels using rolled slabs of clay. These provide good flat surfaces to paint with ceramic colours.
Even after all this time I am still enthusiastic to learn more and am currently experimenting throwing with porcelain.
I also run classes for adults and parties children. Recently I have found my most popular class is one-to-one lessons teaching people to throw on the potters' wheel.
