John Townsend

I throw stoneware on the wheel and then manipulate it to express movement and bring a sense of life into the clay without compromising function. The colours that flow across the surface are based on the work of the Colour Fields Group of abstract expressionist painters, particularly Jules Olitski. My pots are for people to enjoy using or seeing every day and my aim is that each time they do use or see them they will feel some lifting of the spirit.
