I love the relationship garments have with the skin and body, this is something that really pushed my design process for collection.
About my Final Collection- My final collection was kindled from the recent discovery of a collection of family photographs, depicting my now-liberal family in strict and opposing gender roles. I attempt to create work that repurposes the social-history narrative documented within these photos. Such an idea was built upon from inquisitively observing today’s contemporary society and how this gender-role gap is gradually closing, in terms of both mentality and in clothing. It is heavily influenced by the notion of a classic “seaside romance”; the scene in which my grandparents caughted and fell in love. I incorporate this idea through traditional formal beach-wear styles, which informs the tailored silhouette, paired with a relaxed tactility. This also teases the viewer with a dash of skin, whilst also maintaining the prudeness that the 40s held through. This dreamlike romantic mirage is also communicated through a muted, soft colour palette.
