NATASHA LANZON-MILLER

'The problem of women'  mused Andre Breton in his The Second Manifesto of Surrealism 'is the most marvellous and disturbing problem in the world'.

As a young, contemporary female artist I am constantly assessing my position in the art world and questioning when the position of women can truly transform from muse into artists regarded as highly as their male counterparts.I have found Surrealism the perfect lens to explore this. My practice uses Surrealism as a tool to critique the sterility which is often found within the works of male Surrealists and make it intimate. My paintings and sculptures are bizarre, dreamlike, seemingly disconnected but are actually a deep exploration of emotion, the female experience, human nature and sexuality.  I have completed my Bachelor of Arts at Kingston University, London and achieved a First Class with Honours. In October I am enrolled to begin my MFA at the Ruskin School of Art, part of The University of Oxford.
