I am a sound artist, musician, and composer, creating for art spaces, concert halls, and contemporary dance.
I am also the curator of the Seaton Snook archive - searching for sounds, music and art, from a mysterious abandoned seaside town that may or may not be real... Visit the archive in progress at www.seatonsnook.com.
Compositions involve field recordings, instrumental music, electroacoustic sound design, and frequently some form of text. I am the house composer for Proxima Dance company, providing live tape loop soundtracks at their events, and I welcome commissions from contemporary dance practitioners.
Born in Hartlepool, Co. Durham, and originally a pianist studying under Dame Fanny Waterman, I now live in Surrey, and am working towards a PhD in Music Composition at the University of Southampton. My work is concerned with using sonic journalism techniques in an artistic context to tell new stories about imagined or possible realities. I also teach music production, music composition, songwriting, sound design, and soundscape creation in theatre.
Film and TV credits include projects by Mischief Theatre (Peter Pan Goes Wrong/BBC), Oli Mason, and Timothy Gaer.
Currently I am working with the National Trust property Speke Hall, to produce soundscapes and interactive artworks for visitors to the house.
Achieved brief European notoriety as the singer of Prog Rock band Drifting Sun. I'm also adding to my collection of unusual instruments by learning the Northumbrian Smallpipes. When not making musical noises, I am a voiceover artist, and I walk my cat at night.
