Stewart Hearn

All aspects of my work demand high standards of technical skill and design – where traditional skills interpret contemporary visions. In my personal unique work, I'm always pushing my craft and skills harder and higher with every piece I make. It's my passion to always make the next piece better than the last … always mindful of the design of my pieces and their composition, I'm simultaneously dealing with the heat versus the weight of the glass on my iron. Creating my pieces involves speed of thought in making and creative decision, having to be at one with the material, and using my skills and knowledge gained over 30 years of dedication to my craft!

The other side to my business is contract and restoration work (which is very demanding of accurate tolerances), where I make work for other people, some of whom have been clients for over 18 years. Many of the pieces I make are then matched up to metalwork. Everything conforms to my design, production and business professional standard, something that was acknowledged internationally when I was humbled to win a Gold Medal for first prize in “The third session of Craft Glass Creation & Design International Competition and Exhibition, 2018 China”.
