Matthew Lyden

I am an Illustration and Design student at the end of my third year of University at Sunderland. My preferred form of illustration is comic books, I aspire to draw and write my own for a living. For my final major project, I made a 16 page comic book based on my favourite superhero, Spiderman. My take on the character was slightly humorous as instead of the typical Peter Parker, I made the character me. Despite having all the same powers and abilities, I would still be me and will have changed in no way. And instead of swinging around New York City, I’d be swinging around my home town of Hebburn, and also Newcastle. I wanted to create a graphic novel on Spiderman but to give myself the best opportunity to succeed, I knew I needed to put my own spin on an already loved Marvel character.
