I have 30 years experience as an academic, educator and researcher in the field of Dementia Studies, with a particular focus on qualitative research, participatory arts, patient and public involvement, and social justice. Since retiring in 2023 I have set up the small arts collective Tumbling Hill Productions which has performed two research-informed verbatim theatre pieces based on the experiences of people living with dementia and care home staff and co-created an arts installation entitled Beyond Memory with people living with Young-onset dementia. Over the next year we are hoping to extend this portfolio by developing a new drama co-created with people living with Young-onset dementia, which helps to challenge the negative representations of this disability which are frequently found in the media and in advertising by dementia charities.
