Hi, my name is Charlotte Harwood I am 17 years old, and I am a performer in the Nort East of England. I have been performing since the age of 4 starting off with dance, and then further developing my musical theatre training at 8 years old. When I was 12 years old, I successfully auditioned for the company stagebox, joining their elite team travelling to Leeds every Monday to further my education within musical theatre to become the best performer I can be. For my full-time education, I am studying Musical Theatre at MTS college where at the end of my 2 years, I will receive a level 3 extended national diploma in musical theatre. At MTS, we have 35 hours of contact time a week where we train in all three disciplines in classes such as ensemble singing, ballet, tap, jazz, acting through song, audition prep and acting. This has allowed me to stive to be a better performer as I have furthered my skillset by partaking in all these different lessons, which will most definitely help me in the future. In dance, my strengths are the fluidity of movement and my performance. I have good flexibility however it is something I would like to improve on. My favourite style of dance to do is tap, as it’s freeing, and I find it enjoyable. In singing, my strengths definitely lie with contemporary singing and I have a strong and supported belt. Something I would like to work on, and I am spending my time focusing on is accessing the best classical legit sound as possible. With more work, I believe legit sound is something I can obtain if I continue to work on it in my private singing lessons. I also would like to work on my music theory, so I can get a better understanding of what certain words mean when describing what I need the pianist to play in my sheet music. In acting, I believe I need to focus on my Shakespeare work and get is as strong and my contemporary work as having two of similar strengths will be good to get across. This year I have mainly been focusing on improving my improv skills and overall confidence within this skill so I have the ability to use it when asked. My previous experience within Musical theatre shows is varied, from playing Vivienne in Legally Blonde, to Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray. I have also understudied Wednesday in Addams Family and most recently been cast in Grease and Marty and Assistant dance captain. This will be good for me to explore being creative within a show and having responsibility. I am excited to take on this role. Understudying was one of the most rewarding things I have done, having to learn two tracks and learn in my own time was a very big challenge, but once I got to show everyone what I could do with the role, and my own adaptation of it.
