Connor Botherway-Hill (b.2000) is a contemporary photographer, who seats his work within the surreal and uncanny, which gives his work an abrupt jarring quality. His theoretical backing places psychological tensions before the viewer. His subjects, sometimes unobtrusive, may be unnoticed upon first inspection, but once detected grow into a sublime force.
Botherway-Hill’s work references installation art in its curated format. He favours captured moments over photo manipulations. Often after installing his visions into locations, he lets ‘human moments’ play out in front of his lens. Allowing the viewer to deduce that the events captured are not engineered to appear unorthodox but are authentic. Explaining the work’s ability to conjure up feelings of apprehension, and awe. He is chaotic in his approach, emulating the intrinsic values of surrealism itself.
