Dr Chiara DAnna

I'm a London-based multi award-winning actress, director & movement specialist. I'm best known for my collaboration with Peter Strickland on Berberian Sound Studio and The Duke of Burgundy. My latest production's  international tour has been put on hold since March 2020. I hope to be back on the road with my award-winning solo show Don't You Dare! as soon as Covid 19 crisis is over!

As Artistic Director at Panta Rei Theatre, my mission is to inspire, challenge and entertain audiences with humour, irony and powerful imagery. Our work is a unique mix of physical theatre, surreal tragicomedy, dark humour and political satire. I write and direct theatre shows, combined arts events, multidisciplinary immersive performances and site-specific projects.

As a Movement Specialist, Lecturer and Teacher I run workshops and courses on movement, physical theatre, Commedia dell'Arte and devising for companies, schools, universities and cultural institutions. I lead education programmes in a variety of settings in "traditional" spaces such as cultural institutes and theatres, to "alternative spaces" such as ex-factories, churches, royal palaces, parks and art galleries.

My research and practice focuses on the legacy of Commedia dell'Arte in postdramatic theatre (Practice as Research PhD). I teach at Rose Bruford College, E15 Acting School, Goldsmiths University and the Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design in London; and the Accademia dell'Arte in Arezzo, Italy. I run masterclasses and workshops at RADA, the Royal Academy of Music and the Musical Theatre Academy in London and around the world with Drama Arts Productions.
