Fashion has always been a sense of reality to me. I believe, what we see in our surroundings and how we decide to perceive and showcase the same to the world is probably the most surreal power which we, as a designer hold with us.
I am a recent Fashion Design graduate at Indian Institute of Art and Design(IIAD), who has a keen interest in research and concept based fashion. Field learning and experimenting with materials/fabrics/techniques is something which enables me to grasp and connect with my topic more. Rawness of the form and a newness to it, always makes a part of my design process. Through various projects during college, fashion has enabled me to understand the value of sustainability, organic processes, up-cycling, handicrafts, Indian textiles and its processes. I am very much intrigued and like to challenge myself with unconventional methods of fashion and derivation of form/silhouette. After gaining experience of working under different projects during college, various industry and internships, I have learned to evolve my design process accordingly while keeping an open mind towards new ideas.
My Major Design Project 2020 "Reality की बहार " (The spring of reality), is inspired from 'Ghazipur Phool Mandi' one of the largest flower market located in New Delhi, India. The sense of reality and an Indian-ness in its contradictory setting, functioning and the carrying/handling of flowers by the florists was striking to me. Being an Indian, I realised how much of our local surroundings, the ones which are not yet influenced by any modernity, holds the essence of certain system of our place.
