Pete Burns was a songwriter, singer and celebrity personality. Burns was the founder of the band Nightmares in Wax, the name of which was changed to Dead or Alive in 1980.
Dead or Alive had seven top 40 singles and three top 30 albums. As of 2017 the band has sold over 30 million albums and 28 million singles. Their biggest hit, You Spin Me Round went to No. 1 in 1985 and remained there for two weeks.
He appeared on numerous television reality shows, including as a presenter. Known for his ever-changing, often androgynous appearance, which he freely admitted was greatly modified by cosmetic surgery.
I hope when I'm 80 that I get to Heaven and God doesn't recognise me. If you own a car, you change that every few years and that's just what I'm doing with my appearance.
