My name is Skye Medcraft and I am 18 years old.
I have been performing since I was 4 years old. I have been performing and dancing at the same dance school, Unit 17 Dedicated To The Dance And The Performing Arts, since I started at 4 years old.
Performing and Musical Theatre has been my passion since I first started and seeing my first show in the West End. I have been in love with the theatre and the industry for as long as I can remember. It is my favourite thing that I have got into and I am proud to be in this industry.
I have been singing all of my life but I saw 'Matilda The Musical' when I was around 6/7 and I instantly fell in love with the theatre and knew that I wanted to be up on that stage and be apart of the industry.
Since starting at Unit 17, back in 2010, my passion for the industry has grown and my love for the passion and the industry has also grown.
My favourite musicals at the moment are Dear Evan Hansen and Newsies. These musicals have had a huge impact on my life. Dear Evan Hansen is quite an important musical to me and in society today. This is because it carries a huge message that should be continued throughout the theatre world.
I have been training at Unit 17, as mentioned earlier, since 2010 and have been performing and training at Northampton College on the Level 3 Musical Theatre Course. I have also managed to gain a place at LMA in London for my next 3 years of training to hopefully get into the theatre industry.
My Personal Statement:
My name is Skye Medcraft and I am currently 18 years old. I am currently studying a BTEC Level 3 Musical Theatre Diploma at Northampton College, Booth Lane.
I have chosen to study in Musical Theatre because from a young age, I have loved musicals my whole life and I knew that from that point, being on the stage and entertaining people is what I wanted to do.
The idea that excites me a lot is being able to put a smile on people’s faces when performing on the stage- it’s what I had when I was young and I want to do the same to others.
A lot of shows influenced me to want to become a West End performer and I will continue to love performing throughout my life. I have gotten a lot of work experience within my course such as performing at award ceremonies and performing at the local theatre.
I have been attending Unit 17 Dedicated To The Dance And Performing Arts School since I was 4 years old and have been doing ballet, jazz, tap and show skills lessons. I also do annual shows in dance as well as Musical Theatre at Unit 17 also.
Unit 17 has definitely helped my confidence skyrocket over the 13 years that I have been there. With going to Unit 17 and college, I feel a lot more myself and how I can showcase myself to potential employers.
At Unit 17, I have completed various BTDA exams which range from crystal awards to grade 3. However, due to COVID-19, I am now in grade 6. I take these exams with the styles ballet, modern jazz and tap. I am trained in all three styles but my preference is tap.
My teamwork skills are something that I proud myself on as I work well in a team and make sure everyone is involved. My confidence skills is something that I need to work on but I know that if I try my hardest, I will get there.
My teamwork skills are also challenged with my workplace, Mrs B's Coffee Shop in Staverton, Daventry, Northampton. By working here by teamwork, collaboration and thinking on my feet skills are always being challenged as I have to deal with all the different options that will come by way ever week.
With these skills mentioned, I believe that if I continue to work on these skills and obtain new skills and knowledge, I would be able to come the best performer that I can be.
I will be an asset to the university because when I set my mind to something, I get on well with working on it. I also will represent the university in a positive way by making sure I’m doing my best at all times.
I am looking forward to all of the new challenges that the university course will bring me, meeting a lot more people and I will be in every day that I possibly can to make sure that I get the best education that is possible for myself.
I hope you do consider my application as I would love to become part of the university and represent it in a positive and professional way. Thank you for reading my personal statement and I hope you will consider me for the course!
