Terry Nation was a Welsh writer, screenwriter and novelist. Nation first made his name as a comedy writer before becoming a prolific writer for drama, working on many of the most popular British series of the 1960s and 1970s including - The Saint, The Champions, Department S, The Avengers, The Persuaders, The Protectors and Hancock.
His first break was an interview with Spike Milligan. He arrived so worn and woebegone that Milligan said, You look terrible! wrote out a cheque for £10, and told him to go away and try to write a script for the Goon Show.
He made a significant contribution to the Dr Who Universe by inventing and developing one of the Doctor's longest standing villains, the Daleks and later devising the recurring character of Davros. He is also responsible for creating the hugely popular cult dystopian television series Survivors (1975) and Blake's 7 (1978 - 1981).
