Wilfrid Hyde-White

Wilfrid Hyde-White was a quintessentially British character actor of stage, film and television.

I learned two things at drama school:
first, that I couldn't act;
second, that it didn't matter.

He had a memorable supporting role (Crabbin) in The Third Man in 1949 and appeared in numerous films during the 1950s including - Two-Way Stretch and Carry on Nurse.

In the 1960s he appeared alongside Marilyn Monroe in Let's Make Love. Wilfrid's talent as a character actor meant he was nearly always working and he made scores of film appearances during the 60s including - Two Way Stretch (1960), Crooks Anonymous (1962), Ten Little Indians (1965) and Our Man in Marrakesh (1966).

I've owned twelve horses, seven Rolls-Royces, and I've had mistresses in Paris, London and New York - and it never made me happy!

He achieved international recognition playing the role of Colonel Pickering in the 1964 film adaptation of the musical My Fair Lady and remained active into his ninth decade on stage, tv and film.
