Connor Austin
My name is Connor Austin, I am 19 Years old and currently studying Level 3 Media. I started getting involved in Media in Late 2021, where I was doing Level 3 Engineering, and didn't enjoy it. So what I did was to find a career path that I was both good at and really enjoy. One thing I like doing is writing, and have always been told I was a good writer. I also have a passion for cars. I then wondered whether I could combine the two together, and it turns out I could! Motoring Journalism was the combo, and I started writing Car articles on a website called DriveTribe. As I discovered how much I enjoyed this, I decided to finish my engineering course after 1 year and switch to media. Although I didn't fully complete engineering, I still got a Foundation Qualification from the one year I did there. I have a medical condition called Aspergers Syndrome, which means my communication skills are not as good as most people’s. However, as I have grown up and matured, I feel that my communication skills have strengthened over time, for example, I no longer feel overwhelmed talking to new people. Ever since I was very young, I have always had a love and passion for cars and I aspire to become a Motoring Journalist. My knowled. I also love doing racing myself, go-karting and sim racing are two of my favourite hobbies, I spend most of my time doing either of these things, or I am doing research on cars and motorsport. I have been told that my extensive knowledge is a massive skill, and that it can become very helpful in the future if I decide to work in the motorsport sector. My other passion is IT and Computing. Not only have I built my own extremely powerful PC for my studies in engineering, I also have extensive knowledge using Microsoft Office, Google Suite and 3rd party software used for design. This makes it very easy to train on any systems you have in place. I also have a love for music and play the drums. I have been extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to create my own music in my parents digital recording studio which has given me access to professional equipment valued at over £100,000. This certainly taught me responsibility and appreciate a professional working environment. As of right now, I am in my second and final year of my Level 3 Media course, and plan to move on to doing a three year long Bachelor's Degree in Journalism at Coventry University, and then for an extra year move on to Coventry University's Master's Degree in Automotive Journalism, which as of right now is the only University around that has this course. As becoming a Motoring Journalist is my dream job, it seems like the perfect career path to take.
