Innovative Theatre Technician

Channels and Networks

Hi there. I am Daniel Lawrenson. I am currently in my first year studying a Production Arts (Technical Theatre and Stage Management) Degree at University Centre Leeds. Last year I completed a Level 3 BTEC in Theatre Design and Production with a Distinction, accumulating in an FMP designing lighting for a production of Tear of Argentina. I am really enjoying university course and have so far completed modules in Sustainability, Health and Safely and Production Professionals as well as gaining theatre experience during the Panto season at Leeds City Varieties and through working on productions for Leeds Conservatoire and CoDa. I have also worked at Production Lighting and Sound based in Burley just outside Leeds City Centre where I was based in the warehouse, making sure that all the production based equipment was organized and working well ready for events. In addition I completed freelance work at the weekends using this equipment on jobs around the country.
I spend my free time volunteering in my local community at Guiseley Theatre where I presently have the role of Technical Supervisor but I also provide lighting when needed, technical and front of house support, and work behind the bar. I really enjoy working in community theatres and find it very rewarding. I like to spend the summer developing my theatre experience and last summer I worked with Slung Low Theatre group and Fidget Theatre who toured community venues all over Leeds. I am now looking forward to developing my skills further and gaining more experience in the industry.
