The underground feminist punk movement Riot girls started in the 90’s in the United States and combines the feminist movement with the music style of punk and politics. It often addressed issues such as rape, domestic abuse, sexuality, racism, patriarchy, classism, anarchism, and female empowerment.
The genre has also been described as coming out of indie rock, with the punk scene serving as an inspiration for a movement in which women could express anger, rage, and frustration, emotions considered socially acceptable for male songwriters but less common for women.
Tiny skirt is a new band that uses this movement as an inspiration for their songs and style, trying to represent women in today’s world.
