I was inspired to study at the university through my desire to work with materials, attracted initially by the visual appeal of working with hot glass and thrown ceramics. After much experimentation I have chosen to specialise in a mixture of screen printed imagery and kiln formed glass that suits the relationship of my chosen subject matter to the execution of the works. The main inspiration behind my work comes from my own fascination of the macabre and associated collections of morbid curiosities, the uncommon or the bizarre. The work itself focuses on the sinister fascination of the serial killer in modern society, mostly fuelled by the amount of both factual and fictional documentaries, films, mini-series and books in modern media. By broaching this subject using glass and print as my expressive media to create artworks, I want to encourage open discussion on subjects that may normally be considered taboo.
