Hi, I’m Jara Hilmarsdóttir, an Icelandic stage manager currently based in Guildford, Surrey. I’m studying Stage and Production Management at GSA, after two years working backstage at the National Theatre of Iceland and within the independent opera scene. Before shifting into stage management, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in classical singing at the Music University in Cologne, Germany, which gave me a strong foundation in working with music and live performance. My experience spans stage management, props, painting, and technical work, with credits including Disney’s Frozen, new Icelandic theatre, and independent opera productions. Highlights include working across multiple departments, assisting in giant puppet creation for Draumaþjófurinn, and operating over 150 lighting cues from the score for Hänsel und Gretel.
I bring strong score-reading skills, attention to detail, and a calm, organised approach to every project. I’m passionate about music-led productions, collaboration, and supporting creative teams from rehearsal to performance. Thanks to my varied background, I’m comfortable working across many areas of production and enjoy adapting to different styles and processes. If you’re looking for a reliable, versatile, and dedicated stage manager, I’d love to connect!
