Luke Rudge

Hello there,My name is Luke and I'm currently a student studying BA(Hons) Live Events Production at the Academy of Live Technology (formerly Backstage Academy) and my main focus of study is Lighting design and programming.

I've been working in the live events industry since November 2021 but have gained loads of experience by working as local crew for artists such as Stormzy, Little Mix and The Human League, to name a few. As local crew I've worked in a variety of roles such as building LED video wall, stage and set construction, lighting and PA assembly.

I'm a member of Robe's "Next Robe Generation" program and have worked with them at various trade shows, I have also attended Robe's technical training course to set up and operate the Robe Robospot system. I've been fortunate enough to operate the Robospot system live during full dress rehearsals for a couple of artists.

In March 2023 I went on my first UK tour with a band called Caskets, where I was their LD and I was responsible for setting up our touring lighting fixtures and dealing with the power. during the shows, I often ran the lighting for the opening bands as well.

My long term goal for after university is to be touring continuously but while I'm at university, my goal is to work and gain as much experience as possible to help me prepare for a career in the live events industry after I graduate.

While I'm comfortable working in any department, my interests and skills lie in lighting and I'm happy to do anything whether that's being behind a console programming or being the boots on the ground building the truss, hanging the fixtures and running the cable.
