Martin Freeman

Martin John Christopher Freeman, is an English actor and comedian, known for portraying Tim Canterbury in the original UK version of sitcom mockumentary The Office, Dr. John Watson in the British crime drama Sherlock and Lester Nygaard in the dark comedy-crime drama TV series Fargo

Your job, as an actor, is never to just do what you're told. That's boring and life is too short. It's your job to bring something and it will either be to other people's taste or your own taste - and you have to try things out. Actors say, Well as long as the director's happy, but I don't believe that and I don't agree with that. I want the director to be happy, but if I'm not happy, I won't sleep at night.

His first film role was playing Frank in I just Want to Kiss You (1998). Freeman has appeared in diverse range of films ever since including: Ali G Indahouse (2002), Love Actually (2003), Shaun of the Dead (2004), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005), Confetti (2006), Hot Fuzz (2007), Nativity! (2009), Swinging with the Finkels (2009), The Pirates! Band of Misfits (2012), The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey (2012), Svengali (2013), The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug (2013), The Hobbit - The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), Captain America - Civil War (2016), Ghost Stories (2017), Cargo (2017), Black Panther (2018), The Operative (2019) and Ode to Joy (2019).

I'm a big believer that life changes as much as you want it to. The great thing about getting older is that you learn not to care about being cool. I'm happy with who I am, I know what I like and I can't see myself changing... not for a little while, at least.

Freeman's personal style follows that of British mod subculture and he cites Paul Weller as one of his heroes and influences on his style. Freeman is a big fan of soul, motown and jazz music.

Most people have a passive relationship with music and clothes, with culture. But music was my first contact with anything creative. Music is it, as far as I'm concerned.
