Susan Bedford

Born in Derbyshire and now living in Aberdeenshire I have a passion for all things artistic, years of creative experimentation and a plethora of knowledge. I completed my BA Hons Degree in printed textile design in 1999 and set up a wedding stationery design business the same year. I ran this for four years, but felt a need to share my enthusisam for creativity.

In 2003 I qualified as a secondary teacher and began my career in education. Initially teaching Design & Technology, I became head of an Art & Design department in 2005. Since then I’ve taught Fine Art, Textiles, Photography, Graphics and Art, Craft & Design to the 11-18 age group in the English system. I have planned and delivered mini projects to years 5 & 6 supporting the transition process to secondary education. In 2009 I completed my Masters Degree in Education. After relocating to Scotland in 2020, I began teaching Art & Design from junior phase through to advanced higher.

In 2013 I chose to work part time, giving me chance to create my own artwork. Since then I have exhibited at numerous art shows and galleries in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Chester and Harrogate. I took part in a Europeon event in the Czech Republic in 2016. A natural progression was to utilise my knowledge as a teacher and deliver artist workshops, which I’ve done for community and school groups since 2017.

My process is eclectic, I am a prolific photographer and this begins the creative journey for each outcome. I paint on location during my travels then create textile artworks on my return. My portfolio includes original artworks, prints, photo-stitch originals, art cards, unique textile jewellery and a range of cushions and coasters to match my artworks.  I welcome commissions and have a range of existing works for sale.
