VAISHNAVI KARNAM

Namaste, I am Vaishnavi, a Communication Design Graduate from Indian Institute of Art and Design, New Delhi. I am currently working as a Junior Graphic Designer and a Freelance Content Writer. My interests lie in the field of graphic design, branding and visual identity design. I have believed in having a keen eye to finesse, honing my skills and gaining experience. With multiple interests, I invariably like to keep exploring and learning about different aspects of design. Being an avid traveller and someone who is concerned about preserving the culture of a place, I worked on designing an integrated campaign for The Goat Village, a bouquet of farms stays and home-stays practising sustainable tourism in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand, India for my Major Design Project. The main objective was to make people aware of and promote sustainable and eco-friendly stays in Northern India.

Being a passionate traveller, I have over the years come across or read multiple incidents where the biodiversity of any destination has been disturbed due to mass tourism and over-tourism. I was at first confused about which area I should work on, but then I made up my mind to work towards creating awareness and promoting forms of sustainable tourism. My Major Design Project gave me the opportunity to work with Green People India, which is the parent organisation of The Goat Village and make a positive contribution. I got the chance to travel to 3 of 8 Goat Village Properties across Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the best trips I had so far, meeting lovely people and getting to learn so much. There were a few setbacks while working with the organisation. Still, it was an experience necessary for me to learn to be a professional in the industry and to shape me into a better person. I cannot say it will be the fondest memory I will have, but it is worthwhile for what it is. The past 5 months have been a high learning curve irrespective of Covid-19 spoiling the fun of being in college and spending the last few months with my faculty and peers while we worked on our MDP.
