Vidal Sassoon, opened his first salon in 1958, and was possibly the most famous and influential hairdresser of the 1960s.
If I was going to be in hairdressing, I wanted to change things.
I wanted to eliminate the superfluous and get down to the basic angles of cut and shape.
He created strong, revolutionary new styles that boosted women's feelings of personal freedom, at a time when the London look was setting trends around the world. His eye for detail and meticulous dedication to the art of the cut would change the craft of hairdressing forever.
For nine years, I worked to change what was hairdressing then into a geometric art form with colour, perm without setting, which had never been done.
I just considered being one of the luckiest people, in the sense that creativity came to me and it flowed.
If you don't look good, we don't look good.
He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2009 Birthday Honours.
